Nassau County Patio and Paver Ideas
Hot tub pads and build-ups. A pad or build-up designed for the weight and look you want.
Borders and patterns. A border that makes the whole patio look finished.
Lights in the pavers. In-ground and seat-wall lights planned before the pavers go down.
Planters. Raised planters that soften the hardscape.
A patio is one of the two most-wanted home features in NAHB's study of home buyers, rated essential or desirable by 86% of buyers.
Designing a paver patio for Nassau County
Island homes face salt air and ocean wind, while Yulee's newer communities deal more with sun and compact lots. Many Nassau County lots are wooded, so shade comes naturally and roots need planning. A patio near big trees is shaped around the roots, which often gives it a more natural edge.
On a sloped yard, a raised patio with steps can turn an awkward grade into the best seat in the house. Before we draw a paver patio in Nassau County, we check how the new surface meets the old slab, where lights and outlets will sit and how much lot coverage the patio adds.
That yellow dust on Florida patios is often pine pollen, which UF/IFAS says is actually low-allergenic.
Approvals and Permits in Nassau County
Newer Nassau County communities, such as Amelia Walk and Amelia National, run their own architectural review, while many older island streets don't have one. Boards usually look at patio footprint changes, paver colors, borders and wall heights. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Homes inside Fernandina Beach city limits go through the City, and its Downtown and Old Town historic districts need a Certificate of Approval from the Historic District Council first.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a paver patio in Nassau County cost?Every project gets a custom quote with an in-person AutoCAD design, and every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. What drives the cost of a paver patio in Nassau County: how much the site needs to be built up; the size of the area; the paver or stone you choose; borders and patterns; and permits where structures are involved. You get a fully itemized quote within 24 hours of your design consultation.
Can a pergola go on pavers?Yes, with the right base and attachment. We design the structure and the paver work together so nothing has to be torn up later.
What's the best patio shape? The one that fits how you use the yard. We lay out furniture in the AutoCAD design and shape the patio around it.
Who permits projects in Nassau County? The Nassau County Building Department permits unincorporated areas, including Yulee. Homes inside Fernandina Beach city limits are permitted by the City.
Do I need HOA approval for new pavers or a patio extension in Nassau County?Only if your home is in an association or has deed restrictions, and many Nassau County homes don't. If yours does, we prepare the package your board asks for (site plan, scaled drawings, materials and colors, 3D renderings). Either way, we design to the local rules and pull the permits. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
