Pavers & Patios: Your Options

  • Patio extensions. Extend a builder slab or an existing patio and tie the new surface into what you have.
  • Pavers, travertine and marble. Choose the look and color palette; we design the pattern and borders to suit your home.
  • Borders and inlays. Contrasting borders and custom inlays, like the octagon center on one recent patio.
  • Seat walls, planters and steps. Built-in seating, planters and steps that handle a change in grade and give the space shape.
  • Walkways. Side-yard walkways that connect the driveway, front door and back patio.
  • Lighting in the hardscape. Lights in the steps, walls and pavers so the patio is safe and beautiful after dark.

That yellow dust on Florida patios is often pine pollen, which UF/IFAS says is actually low-allergenic.

Pavers & Patios in Jacksonville Beach: What's Different

Paver patios at the Beaches. Jacksonville Beach lots are small and close to the ocean, so a paver patio has to do a lot: dining, a grill and a place to rinse off the sand. In Jacksonville Beach we've replaced an old deck with a paver patio and outdoor kitchen, and paved under an A-frame cedar gazebo with a linear gas fire feature.

Your neighborhood's architectural review comes first. Many Jacksonville Beach homes have no HOA but sit on tight beach lots with city setback rules, while planned communities near the Intracoastal have their own review. Paver and wall changes that alter the footprint of the patio are commonly reviewed in Jacksonville Beach communities, so we include borders, colors and wall heights in the submittal. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

City of Jacksonville Beach permits. Jacksonville Beach is its own city, separate from the City of Jacksonville, so building permits for homes inside its limits go through the City of Jacksonville Beach Planning and Development Department. A Notice of Commencement is required for most permitted projects.

Interlocking concrete pavers can be taken up and put back using the same pavers, unlike asphalt or poured concrete, according to the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI).

Our Work in Jacksonville Beach

A-frame cedar gazebo with linear gas fire feature and outdoor kitchen, Jacksonville Beach We turned this home's original gable-roof lanai into a full A-frame by over-framing a new A-frame that ties straight into it, finished in white outside to match the house, with new posts that match the existing ones. Inside, a stained tongue-and-groove ceiling with dimmable lights and a ridge fan tops the space. A linear gas fireplace with lights under the caps, a reclaimed-wood mantel and a TV above sits between two privacy walls, and a matching outdoor kitchen with a second TV sits under the original lanai. The whole space is screened top to bottom with our expanded-view upgrade.

Deck replacement, paver patio and outdoor kitchen, Jacksonville Beach We replaced an old wood deck with a paver patio and an outdoor kitchen with granite counters, leaving room for the homeowners' smoker. A planter wall keeps the higher ground behind the patio in place, and in-ground and accent lights finish it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a paver patio in Jacksonville Beach cost? Every project gets a custom quote with an in-person AutoCAD design, and every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. What drives the cost of a paver patio in Jacksonville Beach: the size of the area; the paver or stone you choose; borders and patterns; seat walls, planters and steps; lighting; how much the site needs to be built up; and permits where structures are involved. You get a fully itemized quote within 24 hours of your design consultation.

Do I need HOA approval for a paver patio or seat wall in Jacksonville Beach? Usually, yes. Roofed structures, screen enclosures and most hardscape changes in Jacksonville Beach go through architectural review before any work begins. We put together the package your board asks for (site plan, scaled drawings, materials and colors, 3D renderings) and handle the submittal with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Do you install pavers and patios in Jacksonville Beach? Yes. We design and install paver patios, walkways and seat walls, serving homeowners in Jacksonville Beach.

What's the best patio cover near the water or in a windy spot? Coastal and open lots need careful design and material choices. We choose materials and finishes for your home's exposure.

Is Jacksonville Beach part of the City of Jacksonville? No. Jacksonville Beach is its own city, so permits for homes inside its limits go through the City of Jacksonville Beach, not the City of Jacksonville.
