Pergolas in Nassau County
Custom pergolas for Nassau County backyards, designed in person with you in AutoCAD and built and stained on site.
A pergola gives a patio shape, filtered shade and a place for lights, fans and climbing plants, without closing in the yard. AY Luxury Designs designs and builds custom pergolas for homeowners in Nassau County, attached to the house or freestanding, built and finished on site so they fit your patio and match your home.

Ways to Build a Pergola in Nassau County
Swings and benches. A pergola swing or built-in bench turns shade into seating.
Lights and a fan. Wiring is hidden in the beams and planned in the AutoCAD design.
Covered top option. Part of the pergola can carry a solid cover where you want full shade.
Attached to the house. Extends from the lanai so shade starts right at the back door.
UF/IFAS notes that Florida vines such as trumpet creeper or crossvine can be grown on pergolas to create shaded areas.
What Shapes a pergola in Nassau County
Newer Nassau County communities like Amelia Walk and Amelia National run their own architectural review. Many Nassau County lots are wooded, so shade comes naturally and roots need planning. Near the ocean, wind and salt air are the first design question, so the structure is designed for the exposure and finished for the salt.
A pergola changes how much light reaches the windows behind it, so rafter spacing and direction are chosen with the inside of the house in mind. Before we draw a pergola in Nassau County, we check the sun angle over the seating area, how the stain color sits next to your trim and roof and where the posts can land on your survey.
How much sun a pergola blocks depends on how much open sky shows through its top; the Skin Cancer Foundation notes that the indirect UV reaching you in shade rises with the amount of open sky visible.
Approvals and Permits in Nassau County
Newer Nassau County communities, such as Amelia Walk and Amelia National, run their own architectural review, while many older island streets don't have one. For a pergola, boards usually want to see the height, the stain color and where the posts sit relative to the setbacks. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Homes inside Fernandina Beach city limits go through the City, and its Downtown and Old Town historic districts need a Certificate of Approval from the Historic District Council first. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum budget for a pergola in Nassau County?Yes. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Beyond that, the cost depends on the wood; a clear roof; lighting and fans; the patio underneath; and engineering and permits, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.
Will a pergola make my patio feel smaller?Usually the opposite. Because it stays open overhead, a pergola defines the space without walling it in.
Can you put a pergola on pavers?Yes, with the right attachment for the surface. We design the structure and the paver work together.
Have you built in Nassau County?Yes. Our projects include work in Amelia Walk, Amelia National, Fernandina Beach and Yulee.
Is there HOA review for a pergola in Nassau County?Only if your home has an association or deed restrictions. Some Nassau County homes need HOA approval and some need historic review; we sort that out before we design. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Does a pergola in Nassau County need a permit?Usually. Nassau County, or the City of Fernandina Beach inside its limits issues the permit, depending on your address. We prepare the package, pull the permit and schedule the inspections. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
