Pavers & Patios in Amelia Island, FL
The floor of your outdoor space: Amelia Island paver patios planned with everything on top.
Paving over a small slab and extending it into the yard can change how you use the whole backyard. We design paver patios for Amelia Island homes so the surface, the seating and whatever goes on top all work together. On a barrier island, Amelia homes face salt air, ocean wind and protected tree canopy, so we plan around significant trees from the first sketch.

Paver Patio Options on Amelia Island
- Paving over the old slab. Old and new surfaces covered so they read as one.
- Seat walls and benches. Built-in seating that also defines the edges.
- Walkways and side paths. Connect the patio to the gate, the yard or a fire area.
- Fire pit built in. A fire pit set into the patio with seating around it.
ICPI notes that because pavers need no curing, repairs to a paver surface can be done quickly.
Planning a Paver Patio on Amelia Island
Oceanfront lots on Amelia Island can sit seaward of the state's Coastal Construction Control Line, which adds a state review for some structures. Sandy soil near the beach makes the base under the pavers important, and light-colored pavers stay cooler underfoot in full sun.
A border in a contrasting color is a small detail that makes the whole patio look finished. Before we draw a paver patio on Amelia Island, we check what goes on top now or later, how the border meets the lawn and how much lot coverage the patio adds.
Conventional paving gets hot: an EPA-cited pilot study found asphalt reaching surface temperatures up to 152°F at midday, while cool pavements stayed 10 to 16°F cooler.
Amelia Island HOA Review and Permits
Gated and resort communities on the island, such as Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach, run their own architectural review, often with careful rules on materials, colors and tree removal. For new pavers, review boards often ask about the color, the pattern and how much the footprint grows. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
On Amelia Island, homes inside Fernandina Beach city limits are permitted by the City, and the rest of the island is unincorporated Nassau County, which issues permits through its Building Department. We confirm your jurisdiction before we design. Paver work that needs a permit is filed with the rest of the project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum budget for a paver patio on Amelia Island? Yes. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Beyond that, the cost depends on lighting, how much the site needs to be built up, the size of the area, the paver or stone you choose and permits where structures are involved, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.
Can lights be added to pavers? Yes. In-ground lights and lights under seat-wall caps are planned before the pavers go down.
Can you build a raised patio? Yes. Raised patios with steps and seat walls help the space meet a sloped yard.
Do you serve Amelia Island from Jacksonville? Yes. We serve homeowners all over Amelia Island and the Fernandina Beach area. Your project starts with a design session at our Jacksonville studio, and then Amany comes to your home for the in-home design visit.
Do I need HOA approval for new pavers or a patio extension on Amelia Island? In most cases, yes. Review on Amelia Island depends on the community. Resort communities on the south end have their own boards; some beach neighborhoods have none. We put the package together and handle the submittal with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
