Summer Kitchen Builder in Amelia Island, FL
Summer kitchens for Amelia Island lanais and patios, sized to the space. We manage every step, from permit to final walkthrough.
The phrase 'summer kitchen' goes back to Southern homes that cooked outside to keep the house cool. On Amelia Island it still makes sense. We design summer kitchens that sit right off the lanai, with a cover for the storms and lights for late dinners. Marsh views on the west side of Amelia Island and ocean breezes on the east side call for different kinds of shade and screening.

Summer Kitchen Ideas for Amelia Island
- Next to the fire. A summer kitchen beside a fireplace or fire pit keeps the whole evening in one place.
- Compact grill station. A short run with a grill and prep space for smaller patios.
- Full kitchen. Grill, side burner, fridge and storage for families who cook outside often.
- Lighting over the counter. Light where you prep, planned with the cover.
When designing an outdoor living space, UF/IFAS suggests planning power for cooking and lighting early.
Planning a Summer Kitchen on Amelia Island
Fort Clinch State Park anchors the island's northern tip, and the south end opens toward Nassau Sound. Under tree canopy, a covered kitchen keeps leaves and pollen off the counters.
A summer kitchen works best a few steps from the back door. We plan the walk from the house so carrying plates isn't a chore. Before we draw a summer kitchen on Amelia Island, we check how close the kitchen can sit to the lanai, how power reaches the counters and room for seating near the grill.
Jacksonville's air is humid: average morning relative humidity runs about 88% over the year, falling to about 56% in the afternoon, per Florida Climate Center data.
Review Boards and Permits on Amelia Island
Review on Amelia Island depends on the community. Resort communities on the south end have their own boards; some beach neighborhoods have none. Boards usually look at whether the summer kitchen is under a roof, how it's screened from neighbors and its materials. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Nassau County's Building Department permits most of the south end of the island, and the City of Fernandina Beach permits the north end. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the price of a summer kitchen on Amelia Island set? We price each project from its AutoCAD design. Any cover overhead; electrical, gas and plumbing connections by our trade partners; the patio; the size and layout; and permits all move the number. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and the itemized quote arrives within 24 hours of your consultation.
How big should a summer kitchen be? Big enough for how you cook and no bigger. We lay out the counters and seating in AutoCAD so you can see the fit.
Where should a summer kitchen go? Usually close to the back door and out of the main wind, so smoke drifts away from the seating.
Have you worked near Amelia Island? Yes. Our recent work includes projects in Amelia Walk and Amelia National in the Fernandina Beach area, and we serve homeowners all across the island.
Does a summer kitchen on Amelia Island go to the HOA? Plan on it. On Amelia Island, community review boards in places like Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach look closely at materials, colors and trees, so the design starts from their guidelines. We prepare the site plan, scaled drawings and material and color selections and submit them with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
