Summer kitchens for Nocatee: Florida's name for the outdoor kitchen, designed with the cover, the fire and the patio around it.

In Florida, a summer kitchen usually means an outdoor kitchen: a grill, counters and prep space on the patio or under a cover, so you can cook outside and keep the heat out of the house. Planning Your Summer Kitchen for a Nocatee Home

  • Start with your neighborhood's guidelines. Each Nocatee neighborhood has its own review, so we check yours before we sketch a summer kitchen.
  • Work from the builder lanai. Most Nocatee homes started with a standard lanai or slab, so we plan a summer kitchen to tie in cleanly and look original to the house.
  • Fit the lot. Nocatee lots are efficient, so we keep a summer kitchen inside the setbacks and think about the neighbors' view, too.
  • Plan the whole backyard. Pavers, lighting, fans and shade are designed together in AutoCAD, so everything works as one space.

In a national survey of residential landscape architects by ASLA, outdoor kitchens ranked among the top outdoor design elements, expected to be popular by nearly 59% of respondents.

Summer Kitchens in Nocatee: What's Different

Summer kitchens in Nocatee. In Nocatee the summer kitchen often becomes the heart of the backyard, close to the lanai and the pool. We plan counters, the grill and bar seating with your neighborhood's setbacks in mind, like the summer kitchens we've worked on in the Del Webb Nocatee area.

Permits. Most of Nocatee is in St. Johns County, which issues the building permit, usually after a clearance sheet, and automatically notifies registered architectural review associations. Duval-side neighborhoods such as Brookwood are permitted by the City of Jacksonville. A Notice of Commencement is required for most permitted projects. See our St. Johns County permit guide.

According to the EPA, shaded surfaces can be 20 to 45°F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded materials.
