Screen Enclosures in Duval County

Duval County screen rooms and enclosures, planned in AutoCAD with the roof, the floor and the doors.

Northeast Florida evenings are perfect right up until the mosquitoes arrive. A screen enclosure fixes that without walling you in. We design screen enclosures for homeowners in Duval County with clean frame lines, the right doors and room for fans and lights, and we build them with the patio and any roof they wrap.

Screen Enclosure Options in Duval County

  • Screen rooms with a solid roof. A roofed screen room keeps rain off the furniture and still lets the breeze through.

  • Doors where you walk. Door placement follows your path from the house to the yard and the grill.

  • Wrapping a gazebo or A-frame. The structure and screen are designed as one piece.

  • New floor underneath. Pavers or an extended slab so the enclosure has a finished floor.

Keeping mosquitoes out starts with intact screens: the CDC recommends using screens and repairing any holes in them.

What Shapes a screen enclosure in Duval County

Near the beaches, salt air and wind shape the materials; inland, it's shade, humidity and summer storms. We've completed projects across Duval County, including Riverside, Mandarin, Jacksonville Beach, Tamaya and Amelia View. Sand and salt spray are hard on screen doors near the beach, so we place doors on the sheltered side when we can.

For homes with a view, the expanded-view upgrade is usually worth a look, because it reduces the framing you see from inside. Before we draw a screen enclosure in Duval County, we check how the enclosure meets your existing roof, where fans and lights can be mounted and the view you want to keep from inside.

Florida is home to more than 80 species of mosquitoes, according to UF/IFAS.

Approvals and Permits in Duval County

In Duval County, many older neighborhoods have no HOA, gated communities have their own boards, and local historic districts have the City's review. Boards usually look at screen and frame colors, the enclosure's height and how it meets the roof. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

If your property needs another approval, such as a Certificate of Appropriateness in a historic district, the City requires it before the building permit is issued. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a screen enclosure cost in Duval County? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are doors and retractable screens; lighting and fans; the floor underneath; the size and height; and engineering and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.

Do I need a screen to deal with bugs?Screening is the most effective way to enjoy the outdoors without bugs. We can add a screen enclosure to what you have or design one into your project.

Can you screen in a gazebo?Yes. A gazebo can sit inside a screen enclosure, and our expanded-view upgrade keeps the frame lines clean.

Who permits projects in Duval County? The City of Jacksonville permits most of the county through JaxEPICS. Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin issue their own permits.

Does my Duval County home need HOA approval for a screen enclosure? Many Duval County homes have no HOA, so local zoning is what applies. If your street has deed restrictions or an association, we prepare that package as well. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Do I need a permit for a screen enclosure in Duval County? In most cases, yes. In Duval County, permits come from the City of Jacksonville, or the beach cities inside their limits, depending on your address. We pull the permits and schedule the inspections, and every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
