Pergolas in Clay County
Shade with the sky still in view: pergolas for Clay County patios, sized to the house and finished on site.
Rafters overhead change how a patio feels. Suddenly the table has a ceiling, the string lights have a home and the afternoon sun is broken into stripes. We plan pergolas for Clay County families around the way they actually use the yard, then build them on site.

Clay County Pergola Choices
Attached to the house. Extends from the lanai so shade starts right at the back door.
Stained on site. Built in wood and finished in the stain color you pick at the in-home visit.
Swings and benches. A pergola swing or built-in bench turns shade into seating.
Lights and a fan. Wiring is hidden in the beams and planned in the AutoCAD design.
If you like a green canopy, UF/IFAS points out that Florida vines such as crossvine or trumpet creeper can be grown on pergolas for shade.
Before We Draw Your Clay County Pergola
Golf and lake communities like Eagle Harbor, Pace Island and Eagle Landing run their own architectural review. In unincorporated Clay County, additions and accessory structures get a Planning and Zoning site pre-review before the building permit. Mature trees bring shade and roots, so pergola posts are placed to work around the roots and canopy.
Many families start with a pergola and add a clear roof or a fan later, so we plan the structure to take those upgrades without rebuilding it. Before we draw a pergola in Clay County, we check where the posts can land on your survey, how the rafters line up with the back door and windows and whether the patio surface can take the posts.
The more open sky you can see through a pergola's top, the more indirect UV reaches you, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, so slat spacing changes the quality of the shade.
Approvals and Permits in Clay County
Clay County's golf and lake communities usually want drawings, materials and colors before work starts. For a pergola, boards usually want to see the height, the stain color and where the posts sit relative to the setbacks. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Homes inside the Town of Orange Park are permitted by the Town; the rest of Clay County by the County. We confirm it from your address. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Beyond that, the cost depends on the patio underneath; the size and style; attached or freestanding; the wood; and engineering and permits, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.
What's the best pergola for Florida weather? One designed and built for our sun, humidity, storms and salt air. We choose materials for your home's exposure and permit structures to Florida code.
Can a pergola keep the rain off?Yes, with our clear roof option. Panels above the rafters shed rain while keeping the open, airy look of a pergola.
Who permits projects in Clay County?Clay County permits unincorporated areas, including Fleming Island, Oakleaf and most Orange Park addresses. Homes inside the Town of Orange Park are permitted by the Town.
Do I need HOA approval for a pergola in Clay County? Not always. Planned communities in Clay County, such as Eagle Harbor, Pace Island, Eagle Landing and Oakleaf Plantation, run their own architectural review. Where a board applies, we prepare its package and submit it with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Do I need a permit for a pergola in Clay County? In most cases, yes. In Clay County, permits come from Clay County, or the Town of Orange Park inside its limits, depending on your address. We pull the permits and schedule the inspections, and every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
