Pavilions in Duval County

Duval County pavilions with room for a long table, a kitchen or a lounge.

For Duval County families who entertain, a pavilion can be the backyard's main room. We plan the footprint around the table and the kitchen, then match the roof and columns to the house.

Duval County Pavilion Ideas

  • Long dining table. Room for a crowd under one roof.

  • Fireplace. A focal point for cooler nights.

  • Wood ceiling and fans. Comfort and warmth overhead.

  • Walkway to the house. A paver path that connects the pavilion.

Shade makes a real difference: the EPA reports that shaded surfaces can be 20 to 45°F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded materials.

Duval County Planning Notes for Your Pavilion

Near the beaches, salt air and wind shape the materials; inland, it's shade, humidity and summer storms. Our design studio is on the Southside, right in the middle of Duval County. Coastal exposure means a roof is designed to Florida Building Code wind requirements, and every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

A pavilion's size comes from what goes under it, so we lay out the table, the kitchen and the lounge first. Before we draw a pavilion in Duval County, we check the footprint for the table and kitchen, the walkway from the house and where power has to run.

Fans under a covered roof help because moving air helps sweat evaporate from your skin; as ENERGY STAR puts it, fans cool people, not rooms.

Approvals and Permits in Duval County

In Duval County, many older neighborhoods have no HOA, gated communities have their own boards, and local historic districts have the City's review. For a pavilion, review boards usually ask for elevations, the roofing and how far it sits from neighbors. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

If your property needs another approval, such as a Certificate of Appropriateness in a historic district, the City requires it before the building permit is issued. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum budget for a pavilion in Duval County?Yes. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Beyond that, the cost depends on the finishes; what goes underneath (kitchen, fireplace, TV); electrical; the floor and walkways; and engineering and permits, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.

Can a pavilion have fans and lights?Yes. Fans, lights and outlets are planned in the ceiling during design.

Where should a pavilion go in the yard?Usually where it frames a view or anchors the end of a walkway. We study the lot at the in-home visit.

Do you serve all of Duval County?Yes. We serve homeowners from Riverside and Mandarin to the Southside and the Beaches. Our design studio is on the Southside.

Does my Duval County home need HOA approval for a pavilion? Not always. Duval County's gated communities and historic districts each add a review step before the permit. If yours has one, we prepare that package along with the permit. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Do I need a permit for a pavilion in Duval County? In most cases, yes. In Duval County, permits come from the City of Jacksonville, or the beach cities inside their limits, depending on your address. We pull the permits and schedule the inspections, and every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
