Ceiling Fans, Heaters and TVs Under Your Patio Cover
Fans, heaters and a TV turn a patio cover into a room you use all year.
The difference between a patio cover and an outdoor living room is usually what's in the ceiling: fans for summer, heaters for winter evenings, lighting, and a TV. Planning them during design makes them look built in.

What to Plan
- Ceiling fans sized to the space, with a finished ceiling.
- Heaters mounted for winter evenings.
- TV wall with power and mounting planned, often paired with a fireplace or linear fire feature.
- Lighting on dimmers for the mood.
- Permitted electrical, handled with our licensed electrical partner.
Fans cool people, not rooms: the breeze creates a wind-chill effect, according to ENERGY STAR.
Outdoor fans carry location ratings: damp-rated fans are meant for covered spaces protected from direct rain, while wet-rated fans can handle direct rain, such as under an open pergola.

Shed-roof covered patio extension with linear fireplace and natural-stone lanai, Sawgrass Country Club (Ponte Vedra Beach) This family's old pergola was falling apart, so we took it down and rebuilt the whole back lanai. The new covered patio extension uses a single-slope, shed-style roof, chosen because an A-frame wasn't the right fit for this home, with a stained tongue-and-groove ceiling, recessed lights and ceiling fans. A linear fireplace sits on a white stucco wall with a wood mantel that matches the ceiling, built-in seating and a TV above. Heaters are tucked into the headers, and stucco columns carry lanterns. Natural stone runs through the covered and open patio, framed by a white stucco seating wall with lit caps, and lit steps lead down to the yard. A retractable screen separates the covered extension from the open-air patio, and the upper balconies were rebuilt and re-tiled to match. The new roof was color-matched to the home's original tile roof.
Cedar gazebo, screen enclosure and outdoor kitchen, The Coves (Sawgrass Players Club) An expansive A-frame cedar gazebo tied into the home's roofline, with a linear gas fireplace and TV wall, inside a screen enclosure with our expanded-view upgrade, over marble laid in a French pattern with an outdoor kitchen and a new door opening into the house.
Screened A-frame gazebo with stone fireplace on a raised patio, Cypress Trails (Nocatee) A screened A-frame cedar gazebo that ties into the home's existing A-frame lanai so cleanly it looks original to the house. Because the yard drops off sharply, the patio is built up on a raised wall-block base. Inside, exposed rafters give it a cabin feel over a tongue-and-groove ceiling with lights and a ceiling fan, and the focal point is a gas fireplace clad in hand-laid stone with a raised hearth, a stone mantel and a TV above. The same pavers and ceiling finish continue across the existing lanai so the old and new spaces read as one.
