Why Patio Covers Need Permits
Florida's building code sets wind requirements based on your location. A roofed structure has to be designed for them, and the permit and inspections confirm it. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
The Florida Building Code uses the national ASCE 7 wind standard, so design wind speeds vary by location, and areas designated wind-borne debris regions carry added requirements. Permitted structures are designed to Florida Building Code wind requirements.
By County
See our guides for Duval County, St. Johns County, Clay County and Nassau County.
According to the EPA, shaded surfaces can be 20 to 45°F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded materials.
