Outdoor Lighting Installation in Twenty Mile

Lighting designed with the patio and structure for Twenty Mile backyards.

Most Twenty Mile homes come with a couple of wall lights by the back door and not much else. We design layered outdoor lighting, from steps to ceilings to trees, with our licensed electrical partner.

Lighting a Twenty Mile Backyard

  • In-ground paver lights. Fixtures set into the patio surface.

  • Planned with the AutoCAD design. Fixture locations shown in the design so nothing is an afterthought.

  • Column and post lights. Lights on columns that mark the edges of the space.

  • Lighting an existing patio. Adding fixtures to what you already have.

UF/IFAS notes that warm-white LEDs below about 3600K are harder for insects to see, while cooler-white bulbs attract more bugs.

What Shapes an outdoor lighting design in Twenty Mile

Twenty Mile is a collection of Nocatee neighborhoods, including The Colony and The Crossing at Twenty Mile, near Twenty Mile Park. Twenty Mile Park has a family pool with lap lanes, a dog park, a playground, athletic fields and a pavilion. New-build backyards are often dark after sunset, so lighting is usually part of the first project.

Dimmers and zones let the same backyard feel like a dinner spot or a party space. Before we draw an outdoor lighting design in Twenty Mile, we check which paths and steps need light first, which trees or walls are worth lighting and whether wires can run before new pavers go down. The wiring is handled with our licensed electrical partner and inspected with the rest of the project.

DarkSky International recommends aiming outdoor lights downward with shielding, using timers or motion sensors, and choosing warmer colors where possible.

Approvals and Permits in Twenty Mile

Each Twenty Mile neighborhood reviews exterior changes through its own association, on top of the Nocatee master rules. Some boards review exterior lighting for glare and fixture style. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Twenty Mile homes are permitted by St. Johns County. The County requires a building permit for most improvements and, in most cases, a clearance sheet before it accepts the application, and registered architectural review associations are notified automatically when exterior work is filed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum budget for an outdoor lighting design in Twenty Mile?Yes. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Beyond that, the cost depends on how many zones and controls; distance from the panel; new pavers or walls the wiring runs through; the number and type of fixtures; and permits, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.

Does outdoor lighting need a permit?New electrical circuits are permitted work. We pull the electrical permit with the rest of your project.

Should lighting be planned before pavers?Ideally, yes. Running wire before the pavers go down keeps everything hidden.

Who permits Twenty Mile homes?St. Johns County, after its clearance sheet. We handle it.

Does outdoor lighting or electrical work in Twenty Mile go to the HOA?Yes. In Twenty Mile, Nocatee's published guidelines ask owners to get written approval before installation, and each neighborhood adds its own. We prepare the site plan, scaled drawings and material and color selections and submit them with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
