Outdoor Lighting Installation in Jacksonville Beach, FL

Jacksonville Beach outdoor lighting that makes the backyard usable and beautiful after sunset.

Good outdoor lighting is mostly invisible: you notice the glow, not the fixture. We plan lighting for Jacksonville Beach backyards with the patio, the walls and the ceiling, so every light has a job and none of them glare. Close to the ocean, Jacksonville Beach backyards deal with salt air, sand, strong wind and small lots.

Lighting a Jacksonville Beach Backyard

  • In-ground paver lights. Fixtures set into the patio surface.
  • Ceiling lights. Recessed or ceiling lights in a gazebo, cover or A-frame.
  • Kitchen task lighting. Light where you cook and serve, without glare in your eyes.
  • Lighting an existing patio. Adding fixtures to what you already have.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, LEDs use at least 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last about 25 times longer.

Before We Draw Your Jacksonville Beach Outdoor Lighting Design

Older beach cottages and newer two-story homes sit side by side in Jacksonville Beach, so a structure has to suit the house it's attached to. With neighbors close by, lighting is kept low and soft so it lights your space without lighting theirs.

Layered lighting works best: path lights for safety, wall and step lights for glow, and ceiling lights where you sit. Before we draw an outdoor lighting design in Jacksonville Beach, we check which paths and steps need light first, how light falls toward the neighbors and what switches and dimmers you want. We handle the electrical work with our licensed electrical partner. Gas and plumbing work is always done by our licensed trade partners.

DOE says good-quality white LED products are expected to last 30,000 to 50,000 hours or more, compared with about 1,000 hours for a typical incandescent bulb.

Jacksonville Beach HOA Review and Permits

Many Jacksonville Beach homes have no HOA but sit on tight beach lots with city setback and lot coverage rules, while planned communities near the Intracoastal, such as Isle of Palms, run their own review. Some boards review exterior lighting for glare and fixture style. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Permits at Jacksonville Beach come from the City's Planning and Development Department. Lot coverage is part of every structure and hardscape submittal. New circuits are permitted electrical work, and we pull the electrical permit with the rest of your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum budget for an outdoor lighting design in Jacksonville Beach? Yes. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Beyond that, the cost depends on distance from the panel; new pavers or walls the wiring runs through; the number and type of fixtures; how many zones and controls; and permits, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.

Should lighting be planned before pavers? Ideally, yes. Running wire before the pavers go down keeps everything hidden.

Can you light trees in my yard? Yes. Uplights in a tree canopy are one of the best ways to add depth after dark.

Are there lighting rules near the beach in Jacksonville Beach? Yes. Jacksonville Beach has sea turtle protection lighting rules for properties near the beach. If your home is close to the dunes, we plan fixtures and placement with them in mind.

Does my Jacksonville Beach home need HOA approval for outdoor lighting or electrical work? Only if your home has an association or deed restrictions. At Jacksonville Beach, the City's zoning usually shapes a backyard more than an HOA does. Lot coverage, setbacks and, on some streets, an association's guidelines all get checked before we draw. Some HOAs review lighting. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
