Outdoor Kitchen Builder in Amelia Island, FL

Outdoor kitchens for Amelia Island homes, from a simple grill run to a full kitchen under a roof.

An outdoor kitchen is a small construction project of its own: a base, counters, appliances, power, and often a roof. We handle all of it for homeowners on Amelia Island, with gas and plumbing connections made by our licensed trade partners. Marsh views on the west side of Amelia Island and ocean breezes on the east side call for different kinds of shade and screening.

Amelia Island Outdoor Kitchen Layouts

  • L-shaped kitchen. More prep space and a natural corner for guests to gather.
  • Under a gazebo or cover. Shelter from sun and storms, with lighting overhead.
  • Task lighting. Light where you cook and serve, without glare.
  • Next to the fire. A kitchen beside a fireplace or fire pit keeps the evening in one place.

Designing an Outdoor Kitchen for Amelia Island

Amelia Park and the beach neighborhoods have smaller lots than the resort communities, so compact structures work best. On the island, we choose finishes and materials for salt air.

If you already own a grill you love, we can build the counters around it instead of starting over. Before we draw an outdoor kitchen on Amelia Island, we check where the kitchen sits relative to the back door, what cover, if any, goes overhead and how the counters line up with the patio edge.

When designing an outdoor living space, UF/IFAS suggests planning power for cooking and lighting early.

Approvals and Permits on Amelia Island

On Amelia Island, community review boards in places like Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach look closely at materials, colors and trees, so the design starts from their guidelines. For an outdoor kitchen, boards often ask about its location on the lot, its finishes and any roof planned over it. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Whether you're inside Fernandina Beach city limits or in unincorporated Nassau County decides who issues your permit. Oceanfront lots can also fall under the state's Coastal Construction Control Line, which can mean a separate state permit, so we check that first. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Outdoor receptacles have required ground-fault (GFCI) protection under the National Electrical Code since the early 1970s, according to the CPSC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum budget for an outdoor kitchen on Amelia Island? Yes. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Beyond that, the cost depends on the size and layout; the base and counter materials; the appliances; any cover or structure overhead; and permits, and your fully itemized custom quote comes within 24 hours of your consultation.

Can I use the grill I already own? Often, yes. Tell us what you cook on and we'll design the counter around the appliances you want to keep.

Can the outdoor kitchen go under a covered patio or gazebo? Yes, and in Florida that's often the best spot. We design the cover and the kitchen together in AutoCAD so clearances, ventilation and lighting work from day one.

Do oceanfront Amelia Island homes need a state permit? Some do. Structures seaward of Florida's Coastal Construction Control Line can need a permit from the state on top of the local building permit. We check your lot before we design.

Will my Amelia Island HOA review an outdoor kitchen? In most Amelia Island communities, yes. We prepare the drawings, materials and 3D renderings the board looks at and submit them with you. The decision belongs to the board, so confirm current guidelines with your association.
