Is a Covered Patio Worth It?
Is a covered patio worth it in Florida? For most homeowners, it's the most-used room of the house.
In Northeast Florida, a covered patio adds living space you can use through sun and summer rain. Whether it's worth it for you depends on how you'll use it and how well it's designed.

Why Florida Homeowners Add a Covered Patio
Usable most of the year. Shade and rain protection make the patio usable in more of the day and more of the year.
A real room. A finished ceiling with fans, lights and a TV turns it into an extension of the house.
Protects furniture and the kitchen. Outdoor furniture and appliances last longer under cover.
Looks original to the house. Designed right, it adds to the home's curb appeal from the back.
In NAHB's study of home buyers, 86% rated a patio essential or desirable, making it one of the two most-wanted features.
What Makes It Worth It
Value depends on design and quality: a cover that ties into the roof cleanly, matches the home, and is permitted with the necessary engineered documents. Every project gets a custom quote with an in-person AutoCAD design, and every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. Financing is available through Synchrony Bank, including 18 months of no-interest financing, and we have other financing options as well.
The EPA reports that shaded surfaces can be 20 to 45°F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded materials.
