Gazebo Builder in Avondale, Jacksonville, FL

Gazebos for Avondale homes, out in the yard or attached to the house.

A gazebo gives the backyard a destination. We plan gazebos for Avondale families in AutoCAD, from the footprint to the ceiling finish, so you can see it on your lot before anything is built. A gazebo can stand on its own in the yard or attach to the house, and its roof can be flat, shed-style or an A-frame.

How Avondale Families Use a Gazebo

  • Freestanding in the yard. A destination at the end of the patio or a path.

  • Attached to the house. Roofed and finished to look original.

  • Privacy panels. Panels on one side for privacy from the neighbors.

  • Paver floor. A patio underneath sized to the gazebo.

Merriam-Webster defines a gazebo as a roofed structure, usually freestanding and usually open on the sides, and lists pavilion as a synonym.

Designing a gazebo for Avondale

Telfair Stockton's Avondale Company opened the neighborhood in 1921 with curving streets and parks, and most homes date from the 1920s and early 1930s. Avondale lots near the river get more breeze, while interior blocks stay shaded under the canopy. Under mature trees, a solid roof keeps leaves and pollen off the furniture, and footings are placed to work around roots.

Matching the roofing and trim to the house keeps an attached gazebo from looking added on. Before we draw a gazebo in Avondale, we check whether it ties into the house or stands alone, how the roofing matches the house and where fans and lights mount.

Fun fact: according to Merriam-Webster, the word gazebo may come from the English word gaze plus a Latin-style ending, as in videbo, "I shall see."

Approvals and Permits in Avondale

Because Avondale is a locally designated historic district, the City reviews exterior changes, including site work, before a permit is issued, whether or not the work shows from the street. Boards usually ask where the gazebo sits on the lot, how tall it is, and whether the roofing and trim match the house. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

In Avondale, we file with the City of Jacksonville through JaxEPICS, record the Notice of Commencement for most permitted projects and schedule the inspections through final. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
