Gazebo Builder in Amelia Island, FL

A room outside: gazebos for Amelia Island backyards, planned with the patio around them.

A gazebo can be a lounge, a dining room or an outdoor kitchen with a roof. AY Luxury Designs designs and builds gazebos, serving homeowners on Amelia Island, freestanding or attached to your house, finished to look like part of the house. The City of Fernandina Beach covers the north end of Amelia Island, while much of the south end, including Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach, is unincorporated Nassau County. The roof can be flat, shed-style or a peaked A-frame.

Gazebo Options on Amelia Island

  • Freestanding in the yard. A destination at the end of the patio or a path.
  • Privacy panels. Panels on one side for privacy from the neighbors.
  • Over the hot tub. Shade and shelter where you soak.
  • Column wraps. Columns finished to match the house or the stonework.

A roof overhead blocks direct sun, but some UV still bounces in from bright surfaces like dry sand or concrete, the Skin Cancer Foundation notes.

Amelia Island Planning Notes for Your Gazebo

Fort Clinch State Park anchors the island's northern tip, and the south end opens toward Nassau Sound. Island roofs are designed for coastal wind, with footings placed around tree roots.

Matching the roofing and trim to the house keeps an attached gazebo from looking added on. Before we draw a gazebo on Amelia Island, we check where the gazebo sits on the lot, how the roofing matches the house and how the floor meets the patio.

The dictionary calls a gazebo a roofed structure that is usually freestanding and usually open on the sides; Merriam-Webster even lists pavilion as a synonym.

Approvals and Permits on Amelia Island

Gated and resort communities on the island, such as Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach, run their own architectural review, often with careful rules on materials, colors and tree removal. Boards usually ask where the gazebo sits on the lot, how tall it is, and whether the roofing and trim match the house. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

On Amelia Island, homes inside Fernandina Beach city limits are permitted by the City, and the rest of the island is unincorporated Nassau County, which issues permits through its Building Department. We confirm your jurisdiction before we design. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a gazebo cost on Amelia Island? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are the floor; the size; freestanding or attached to the house; roof; and engineering and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.

Can a gazebo match my roof? Yes. Attached gazebos are roofed and finished to match the house.

Freestanding or attached gazebo? Freestanding gazebos create a spot in the yard; attached ones extend the house. Either kind can have a flat, shed-style or A-frame roof. Amany can show both in AutoCAD.

Do you work in Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach? We serve homeowners all across Amelia Island. Those communities run their own architectural review, so confirm current guidelines with your association.

Will my Amelia Island HOA review a gazebo? Plan on it. Many Amelia Island homes are in communities with an architectural review board, and trees are often part of what the board looks at. We prepare the site plan, scaled drawings and material and color selections and submit them with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Does a gazebo on Amelia Island need a permit? Usually. The City of Fernandina Beach inside city limits and Nassau County elsewhere on the island issues the permit, depending on your address. We prepare the package, pull the permit and schedule the inspections. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
