Fire Pit Installation in Amelia Island, FL
Where the evening ends up: fire pits for Amelia Island backyards, planned in AutoCAD.
On Amelia Island, the best fire pit nights come between October and April. We design fire areas that feel like their own outdoor room, with a bench or seat wall wrapping the fire and lights for the walk back to the house. The City of Fernandina Beach covers the north end of Amelia Island, while much of the south end, including Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach, is unincorporated Nassau County.

Fire Pit Options on Amelia Island
- Wood-burning fire pit. The real crackle and smell of a fire.
- Sunken fire areas. A step down to the fire with benches makes a cozy room in the yard.
- Lighting around it. Step and seat-wall lights for the walk back to the house.
- Next to the kitchen. Fire and cooking close together keeps the evening in one place.
NAHB lists outdoor kitchens and outdoor fireplaces among the home features that have grown most in popularity over the past ten years.
What Shapes a Fire Pit on Amelia Island
Resort communities on the south end of Amelia Island run their own architectural review, often careful about trees, colors and materials. With branches overhead, a gas fire feature is often the safer choice.
Some families want the fire close to the kitchen; others want it out in the yard as a destination. We show both options in AutoCAD. Before we draw a fire pit on Amelia Island, we check clearance from the house, fence and trees, gas or wood, and what that means for placement and how seating wraps the fire.
DarkSky International recommends aiming outdoor lights downward with shielding, using timers or motion sensors, and choosing warmer colors where possible.
Review Boards and Permits on Amelia Island
On Amelia Island, community review boards in places like Amelia Island Plantation and Summer Beach look closely at materials, colors and trees, so the design starts from their guidelines. Boards often ask whether the fire pit is gas or wood-burning and how far it sits from the house and the property lines. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Whether you're inside Fernandina Beach city limits or in unincorporated Nassau County decides who issues your permit. Oceanfront lots can also fall under the state's Coastal Construction Control Line, which can mean a separate state permit, so we check that first. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a fire pit cost on Amelia Island? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are benches and seat walls; the patio around it; lighting; gas or wood; and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.
Gas or wood-burning fire pit? Gas is instant and smoke-free; wood gives the crackle and smell. We build both and help you choose for your yard and your HOA.
Can a fire pit have lights around it? Yes. Seat-wall and step lights make the fire area safe and inviting after dark.
Do oceanfront Amelia Island homes need a state permit? Some do. Structures seaward of Florida's Coastal Construction Control Line can need a permit from the state on top of the local building permit. We check your lot before we design.
Does a fire pit on Amelia Island go to the HOA? Usually, yes. Many Amelia Island homes are in communities with an architectural review board, and trees are often part of what the board looks at. We prepare what the board asks for, and the decision is the board's, so confirm current guidelines with your association.
