Covered Patio Extensions in Clay County

Covered patio extensions for Clay County homes: more shade, more room, and a roof that looks original to the house.

Most builder patios are too small for a table and a few chairs, and they sit out in the sun. A covered patio extension adds usable space with a roof that ties into the house. AY Luxury Designs designs and builds covered patio extensions for homeowners in Clay County, from A-frame and gable covers to single-slope extensions where an A-frame won't fit.

Covered Patio Options in Clay County

  • Flat composite roof. A low-profile cover that keeps the windows behind it bright.

  • Wood or finished ceiling. A ceiling that makes the cover feel like a room.

  • Fans and lights built in. Wired into the new ceiling so they're ready on day one.

  • Heaters for cool nights. Heaters mounted in the cover so the patio works in January too.

Cloudy days still bring sun exposure: the Skin Cancer Foundation says up to 80% of UV rays can pass through clouds.

Designing a covered patio extension for Clay County

We've completed projects in Pace Island, Eagle Landing and around Orange Park. Many Clay County families entertain outside, so kitchens, fireplaces and fire pits come up often. On a lot facing water, a roof is shaped and placed so the view from the family room stays open.

The hardest part of a patio cover is the tie-in to the house. Amany studies the existing roof at the in-home visit before choosing between a gable, a single slope or a flat roof. Before we draw a covered patio extension in Clay County, we check what the ceiling will look like from below, where fans and lights belong and how the floor carries out from the old slab.

The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that a roof blocks direct sun while some UV still reflects in from bright surfaces such as concrete or dry sand.

Approvals and Permits in Clay County

Planned communities in Clay County, such as Eagle Harbor, Pace Island, Eagle Landing and Oakleaf Plantation, run their own architectural review. Boards usually want elevations showing how the new cover meets the roofline, along with the roofing material and the setbacks. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Clay County permits are filed through the County's online self-service portal, with a Planning and Zoning site pre-review for additions and accessory structures. See our Clay County permit guide. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
