Cabana Builder in St. Augustine, FL

St. Augustine cabanas with a roof, a bar and a fan, placed where you actually spend the afternoon.

A cabana gives guests a place to land that isn't the kitchen. For St. Augustine homeowners we design cabanas in AutoCAD first, so you see the shade, the seating and the view before anything is built.

St. Augustine Cabana Ideas

  • A bar counter. A place to set drinks and snacks out of the sun.

  • Ceiling fan and lighting. Planned in the design, wired with our licensed electrical partner.

  • A wood ceiling. A warm finish overhead with the fan set in it.

  • The deck around it. Pavers or stone that tie the cabana into the patio. We don't build pools.

Fans under a covered roof help because moving air helps sweat evaporate from your skin; as ENERGY STAR puts it, fans cool people, not rooms.

Before We Draw Your St. Augustine Cabana

St. Augustine homes run from salt-air lots on Vilano Beach and Anastasia Island to wooded preserve and pond lots in the newer communities west of town. Near the Matanzas River, the Intracoastal and the marsh, wind and salt exposure shape the choice of finishes. Coastal exposure means a roof is designed to Florida Building Code wind requirements, and every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

A cabana works best where the afternoon sun is strongest, which is rarely where people first picture it. Before we draw a cabana in St. Augustine, we check where the afternoon sun falls, the path from the back door and the view from inside the house.

Jacksonville's air is humid: average morning relative humidity runs about 88% over the year, falling to about 56% in the afternoon, per Florida Climate Center data.

Approvals and Permits in St. Augustine

Newer St. Augustine communities usually have an architectural review board; older streets on the island often don't. Either way, we confirm what applies to your lot first. For a cabana, the board typically wants the location on the survey, the elevations and the colors. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Two offices permit St. Augustine homes: the City inside its limits and St. Johns County outside them. We pull the right permit for your address and schedule the inspections. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.
