Outdoor Ceiling Fan & Heater Installation in St. Augustine, FL

St. Augustine outdoor fans and heaters, planned in the ceiling design and wired with our licensed electrical partner.

A St. Augustine patio can be too hot in August and too chilly in January. Fans and heaters fix both. We plan them with the ceiling, so the fixtures line up with the seating and the wiring stays hidden. Near the Matanzas River, the Intracoastal and the marsh, wind and salt exposure shape the choice of finishes.

Fan and Heater Options in St. Augustine

  • Ceiling fans on the ridge. A fan on the ridge beam of a wood ceiling.
  • Fans on a pergola. Mounted to the beams and sized to the space.
  • Heaters in the headers. Mounted so they warm the seating area.
  • Two comfort zones. Separate controls for the dining and lounge areas.

Research in the Journal of Medical Entomology found that fan-generated wind strongly reduced mosquito catches, mainly by diluting the carbon dioxide and scents that draw them in, so a ceiling fan can help.

Before We Draw Your St. Augustine Fan and Heater Layout

Across the Bridge of Lions, Davis Shores and Anastasia Island homes sit closer to the ocean breeze than the communities out west. Salt air and wind-driven rain are hard on outdoor wiring, so outlets, switches and fixtures are placed and protected for the exposure.

Switches by the back door save a lot of walking. We plan controls where you'll actually reach them. Before we draw a fan and heater layout in St. Augustine, we check the ceiling or beam each fixture mounts to, how fans and lights share the ceiling and whether the screens stay closed most of the season. We handle the electrical work with our licensed electrical partner. Gas and plumbing work is always done by our licensed trade partners.

Outdoor heaters made the list of expected popular outdoor elements in a national ASLA survey of residential landscape architects.

St. Augustine HOA Review and Permits

Master-planned communities such as SilverLeaf, Shearwater, Markland and Palencia run their own architectural review, while many older and beach-side neighborhoods follow city or county rules only. Fans and heaters rarely need their own HOA review, but the structure they hang in usually does. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Homes inside the City of St. Augustine's limits are permitted by the City. In the City's historic preservation zoning districts, most exterior work, including a new accessory structure, needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Architectural Review Board before a building permit can be issued. Outside city limits, unincorporated St. Johns County issues a clearance sheet before it accepts the permit application. New circuits are permitted electrical work, and we pull the electrical permit with the rest of your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a fan and heater layout cost in St. Augustine? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are distance from the panel; the number of fans and heaters; the structure they mount to; circuits and controls; and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.

Can fans and heaters be on separate switches? Yes. We can zone fans, heaters and lights so each area has its own controls.

Are outdoor fans and heaters permitted work? New circuits are permitted electrical work, and we pull the permit with the rest of the project.

Do you serve Anastasia Island and Vilano Beach? Yes. We serve homeowners all across St. Augustine, including the beach side. Salt air and wind shape the design there, and we plan for them from the first sketch.

Do I need HOA approval for outdoor lighting or electrical work in St. Augustine? Plan on it. Whether a St. Augustine project goes to an HOA board, the City's historic review or neither depends on the address, so we sort that out before we draw anything. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
