Gazebo vs. Pavilion
Two solid-roof structures, two different jobs.
Gazebos and pavilions both have solid roofs. The difference is mostly about how they're used: a gazebo can stand on its own or attach to the house as an outdoor room, with a flat, shed-style or A-frame roof, while a pavilion is usually a larger freestanding shelter out in the yard.

Gazebo vs. Pavilion
| Gazebo | Pavilion | |
|---|---|---|
| Roof | Solid: flat, shed-style or A-frame | Solid |
| Placement | Attached (often tied into the roofline) or freestanding | Usually freestanding |
| Typical use | Outdoor living room with fans, lights, TV, fireplace | Shelter over a kitchen, dining area or poolside seating |
| Screening | Often screened | Usually open |
Gazebo and pavilion overlap in everyday use: Merriam-Webster lists each word in the other's synonym list.
How to Choose
If you want an outdoor room attached to the house or a cozy freestanding spot, a gazebo. If you want a larger gathering place out in the yard, a pavilion. Both are designed in AutoCAD on your survey.
By Merriam-Webster's definition, a pavilion is usually an open structure in a garden, park or place of recreation, used for entertainment or shelter.
