What Matters in Florida Weather

  • Wind. Permitted structures are designed to Florida's wind requirements, with the necessary engineered documents.
  • Sun. Open pergolas give filtered shade; louvered pergolas and solid covers give more.
  • Rain. If you want to sit out in summer storms, consider a louvered pergola or a solid-roof cover.
  • Humidity and salt air. Finishes chosen for your exposure.
  • Care. Every material needs some care in Florida; we'll explain what yours needs.

UF/IFAS recommends avoiding wood-to-ground contact, like posts or decks set directly in soil, as one way to help reduce termite risk in Florida.

Jacksonville's air is humid: average morning relative humidity runs about 88% over the year, falling to about 56% in the afternoon, per Florida Climate Center data.
