Linear Fire Features in St. Augustine, FL

Linear gas fire for St. Augustine patios, gazebos and screen rooms, planned with the wall it sits in.

The appeal of a linear fire feature is how simple it looks. Getting there takes planning: clearances, the wall finish, the gas route and the view from the seats. We handle that for St. Augustine homeowners.

St. Augustine Linear Fireplace and Fire Pit Ideas

  • Linear fireplace walls. Set in stone, stucco or wall block, often with a TV above.

  • Linear fire pits. Long fire pits between parallel benches.

  • Between privacy walls. Framed by walls so the fire becomes the focal point.

  • Under a gazebo. A linear fireplace set into the back wall of a roofed outdoor room.

Before We Draw Your St. Augustine Linear Fire Feature

Pond and preserve lots are common in St. Augustine's master-planned communities, so many designs frame the view instead of closing it in. Across the Bridge of Lions, Davis Shores and Anastasia Island homes sit closer to the ocean breeze than the communities out west. Near water, a fire feature at the patio edge makes the view part of the evening.

A linear fireplace under a roof needs its clearances planned before the roof framing is drawn. Before we draw a linear fire feature in St. Augustine, we check the clearances above and around the fire, the gas route from the meter and how the wall finish meets the patio.

Fire pits and fireplaces topped the list of outdoor design elements in a national ASLA survey of residential landscape architects.

Approvals and Permits in St. Augustine

Master-planned communities such as SilverLeaf, Shearwater, Markland and Palencia run their own architectural review, while many older and beach-side neighborhoods follow city or county rules only. For a linear fire feature, the board typically wants the location, the elevation of the wall and the materials. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Homes inside the City of St. Augustine's limits are permitted by the City. In the City's historic preservation zoning districts, most exterior work, including a new accessory structure, needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Architectural Review Board before a building permit can be issued. Outside city limits, unincorporated St. Johns County issues a clearance sheet before it accepts the permit application. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a linear fire feature in St. Augustine cost?Every project gets a custom quote with an in-person AutoCAD design, and every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. What drives the cost of a linear fire feature in St. Augustine: the gas connection by our licensed trade partners; a mantel, TV or shelves; lighting; the length and finish; and permits. You get a fully itemized quote within 24 hours of your design consultation.

Linear fireplace or traditional fireplace?A linear fireplace gives a long, low flame and a cleaner look; a traditional firebox gives a taller, classic fire. We show both in AutoCAD.

What finishes work around a linear fireplace?Stone, stucco and wall block are common. We match the finish to your pavers and the house.

Is the design session in St. Augustine?Your project starts at our Jacksonville design studio. After that, Amany comes to your St. Augustine home for the in-home design visit.

Does a linear fire feature in St. Augustine go to the HOA?Usually, yes. In St. Augustine, the review that matters depends on where you live: a community architectural review board in places like SilverLeaf, Palencia or Markland, the City's historic review downtown, or simply the county's rules on an older street. We prepare what the board asks for, and the decision is the board's, so confirm current guidelines with your association.
