Fire Pits in St. Johns County

Fire pits for St. Johns County homes, set into the patio with seating around them.

A good fire pit is more than a bowl on the pavers. AY Luxury Designs builds gas and wood-burning fire pits, serving homeowners in St. Johns County, designed with the seating, the lighting and the patio around them. Gas connections are made by our licensed gas trade partners.

Building a Fire Area in St. Johns County

  • Wood-burning fire pit. The real crackle and smell of a fire.

  • Built-in bench. A curved or straight bench that wraps the fire.

  • Fire tables. A linear fire table can sit at seating height on the patio.

  • Lighting around it. Step and seat-wall lights for the walk back to the house.

According to the EPA, shaded surfaces can be 20 to 45°F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded materials.

What Shapes a fire pit in St. Johns County

The City of St. Augustine permits homes inside its limits, and its historic districts add their own review. We've completed projects across St. Johns County, from Nocatee and RiverTown to SilverLeaf, Shearwater and Palencia. Near water, a fire feature at the patio edge makes the view part of the evening.

Seating makes the fire area. A built-in bench or seat wall turns a fire pit into a room. Before we draw a fire pit in St. Johns County, we check clearance from the house, fence and trees, gas or wood, and what that means for placement and the path back to the house.

Fire pits and fireplaces topped the list of outdoor design elements in a national ASLA survey of residential landscape architects.

Approvals and Permits in St. Johns County

Nearly every St. Johns County neighborhood has an architectural review board, so we plan its timeline into the schedule. For a fire pit, review boards commonly look at the fuel type, the materials and its location on the lot. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

St. Johns County notifies registered architectural review associations automatically when exterior work is filed, so your HOA is part of the process from the start. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a fire pit cost in St. Johns County? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are the patio around it; lighting; gas or wood; size and finish; and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.

How far should a fire pit be from the house? It depends on the fire type and local rules. We plan clearances from the house, the fence and any structure during design.

What's a sunken fire area?A fire pit set a step down from the main patio, usually with benches, so it feels like its own room.

Do I need engineering for a structure in St. Johns County?Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents. We include them with the permit package.

Does a fire pit in St. Johns County go to the HOA?Usually, yes. St. Johns County's planned communities each publish their own guidelines, so the package is built for your community, not the county. We prepare the site plan, scaled drawings and material and color selections and submit them with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
