Fire Pit Installation in St. Augustine, FL
Fire pits for St. Augustine homes, set into the patio with seating around them.
In St. Augustine, the best fire pit nights come between October and April. We design fire areas that feel like their own outdoor room, with a bench or seat wall wrapping the fire and lights for the walk back to the house. Near the Matanzas River, the Intracoastal and the marsh, wind and salt exposure shape the choice of finishes.

St. Augustine Fire Pit Ideas
- Seat walls. Walls at seating height around the fire area.
- Fire tables. A linear fire table can sit at seating height on the patio.
- Its own paver area. A separate patio for the fire, linked by a path.
- Next to the kitchen. Fire and cooking close together keeps the evening in one place.
Fire pits and fireplaces topped the list of outdoor design elements in a national ASLA survey of residential landscape architects.
What Shapes a Fire Pit in St. Augustine
Out west near I-95, communities like SilverLeaf, Shearwater and Trailmark have younger homes and open backyards ready for a first project. New-build yards often need a patio extension before a fire feature fits, so we design them together.
Gas fire pits are easy to use and smoke-free, while wood-burning fire pits give the classic crackle. We help you weigh both at the in-home visit. Before we draw a fire pit in St. Augustine, we check gas or wood, and what that means for placement, how seating wraps the fire and whether lights are wanted in the seat walls.
NFPA advises never adding lighter fluid or any other flammable liquid to a fire that's already burning.
Approvals and Permits in St. Augustine
In St. Augustine, the review that matters depends on where you live: a community architectural review board in places like SilverLeaf, Palencia or Markland, the City's historic review downtown, or simply the county's rules on an older street. For a fire pit, review boards commonly look at the fuel type, the materials and its location on the lot. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
Whether your home sits inside the City of St. Augustine or in unincorporated St. Johns County decides who issues the permit and whether historic review applies. We confirm your jurisdiction from your address before we design, and the county requires a recorded Notice of Commencement for most permitted projects. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the price of a fire pit in St. Augustine set? We price each project from its AutoCAD design. The patio around it; lighting; gas or wood; size and finish; and permits all move the number. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and the itemized quote arrives within 24 hours of your consultation.
What seating works around a fire pit? Built-in benches and seat walls work well because they define the fire area. We plan them in AutoCAD.
Can a fire pit have lights around it? Yes. Seat-wall and step lights make the fire area safe and inviting after dark.
Is my St. Augustine home permitted by the City or the county? It depends on your address. Homes inside St. Augustine city limits are permitted by the City, and homes outside them, including most of the newer master-planned communities, are permitted by St. Johns County. We confirm it before we design.
Does a fire pit in St. Augustine go to the HOA? In most cases, yes. Newer St. Augustine communities usually have an architectural review board; older streets on the island often don't. Either way, we confirm what applies to your lot first. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
