Designing an outdoor kitchen electrical project for St. Augustine

Across the Bridge of Lions, Davis Shores and Anastasia Island homes sit closer to the ocean breeze than the communities out west. Out west near I-95, communities like SilverLeaf, Shearwater and Trailmark have younger homes and open backyards ready for a first project. Older homes can mean older electrical service, so we look at the panel and the runs during the in-home design visit.

Task lighting over the counters makes evening cooking safe; accent lights make the kitchen glow. Before we draw an outdoor kitchen electrical project in St. Augustine, we check which appliances need power, where outlets sit in the base and how switches are grouped. We plan every circuit in the design and handle the work with our licensed electrical partner.

Approvals and Permits in St. Augustine

Whether a St. Augustine project goes to an HOA board, the City's historic review or neither depends on the address, so we sort that out before we draw anything. Boards review the outdoor kitchen and its structure; the electrical goes through the permit. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Most of the newer communities with a St. Augustine address are in unincorporated St. Johns County, which issues the permit after its clearance sheet. Homes inside city limits go through the City instead.

Outdoor receptacles have required ground-fault (GFCI) protection under the National Electrical Code since the early 1970s, according to the CPSC.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the price of an outdoor kitchen electrical project in St. Augustine set?We price each project from its AutoCAD design. The distance from the panel; underground runs; the number of circuits and outlets; what they power (fridges, lights, fans, TV); and permits all move the number. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and the itemized quote arrives within 24 hours of your consultation.

How many outlets does an outdoor kitchen need?It depends on your appliances and how you cook. We plan them in the AutoCAD design so there's one where you reach.

Can you add lighting to my outdoor kitchen?Yes. Task lighting over the counters and accent lights under the caps are common.

Do you serve Anastasia Island and Vilano Beach?Yes. We serve homeowners all across St. Augustine, including the beach side. Salt air and wind shape the design there, and we plan for them from the first sketch.

Do I need HOA approval for outdoor lighting or electrical work in St. Augustine?Usually, yes. Master-planned communities such as SilverLeaf, Shearwater, Markland and Palencia run their own architectural review, while many older and beach-side neighborhoods follow city or county rules only. We prepare what the board asks for, and the decision is the board's, so confirm current guidelines with your association.
