Outdoor Kitchen Builder in St. Johns, FL

Custom outdoor kitchens for St. Johns backyards, designed in person with you in AutoCAD and built with the structure around them.

Ask a St. Johns family what they want out back and an outdoor kitchen is usually near the top of the list. We start with how you cook and entertain, then design the counters, the bar and the cover so guests can gather while you work. Many St. Johns lots slope toward ponds, preserves or the St. Johns River, so raised patios, steps and seat walls are part of a lot of designs.

St. Johns Outdoor Kitchen Layouts

  • Raised bar seating. A raised bar edge lets guests sit and talk while you cook.
  • Beverage center. Room for a small fridge so drinks stay outside.
  • Stone or stucco base. A base finished to match the house or the fire feature.
  • Next to the fire. A kitchen beside a fireplace or fire pit keeps the evening in one place.

NAHB lists outdoor kitchens and outdoor fireplaces among the home features that have grown most in popularity over the past ten years.

Before We Draw Your St. Johns Outdoor Kitchen

Plenty of St. Johns homes were built with a basic covered lanai, so extending it, screening it or adding a roofed room beside it is a common first project. Newer homes rarely come with outdoor kitchen power, so circuits are planned with the kitchen.

If you already own a grill you love, we can build the counters around it instead of starting over. Before we draw an outdoor kitchen in St. Johns, we check how far power has to run, what cover, if any, goes overhead and how the counters line up with the patio edge.

In a national survey of residential landscape architects by ASLA, outdoor kitchens ranked among the top outdoor design elements, expected to be popular by nearly 59% of respondents.

Review Boards and Permits in St. Johns

Architectural review is part of almost every St. Johns project, and the right package depends on which association and village your home is in. For an outdoor kitchen, boards often ask about its location on the lot, its finishes and any roof planned over it. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Every permitted St. Johns project goes through St. Johns County. We prepare the clearance sheet and permit package and schedule the inspections. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an outdoor kitchen cost in St. Johns? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are electrical, gas and plumbing connections by our trade partners; the patio underneath; the size and layout; the base and counter materials; and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.

Is an outdoor kitchen worth it? If you entertain or cook outside often, an outdoor kitchen makes the backyard a true living space. We design it to fit how you cook, so the space gets used.

Can you add outdoor outlets and power for an outdoor kitchen? Yes. We plan the circuits and outdoor outlets your kitchen, fans and lighting need as part of the design.

Can a structure go near a preserve line? Preserve and easement lines can limit where a structure goes. We work from your survey and design inside them.

Do I need HOA approval for an outdoor kitchen in St. Johns? In most cases, yes. From RiverTown to Stillwater, nearly every St. Johns community has an architectural review committee, and the bigger ones add village-level rules, so the submittal has to match the right set of guidelines. We prepare what the board asks for, and the decision is the board's, so confirm current guidelines with your association.
