Back Patio Expansion for Entertaining

Project Overview

We began by removing the outdated structure and replacing it with a custom shed-style aluminum patio cover, beautifully finished underneath with tongue-and-groove ceiling panels and color-changing recessed can lights. Ceiling fans and ambient LED lighting create a versatile setting that transitions effortlessly from sunny afternoons to starlit evenings.

At the heart of the design lies a sunken hot tub, perfectly excavated and surrounded by a real-stone veneer build-up that ties seamlessly into the matching brick paver flooring. Soft step lights and inground LED fixtures cast a warm glow across the spa and its perimeter, while accent spotlights illuminate the landscape beyond—mirroring the same tone and rhythm of the lighting beneath the outdoor kitchen for a cohesive, resort-style ambiance.

For privacy and atmosphere, a double-sided L-shaped privacy wall wraps the hot tub area, offering both seclusion and entertainment. On the interior side, it houses a flat-screen TV and integrated speakers, turning the spa zone into a private media lounge.

To the left, a four-foot screen door opens to a larger screened-in patio enclosure, where an 18-foot feature wall becomes the centerpiece of the design. Smooth stucco on the rear and stone veneer detailing on the front give it architectural depth, while the wall supports a flat-screen TV, LED backlit shelves, and an array of recessed bar lights that bring the space to life after dark.

Running the full length of the wall is a custom outdoor kitchen outfitted with every luxury imaginable—a grill, smoker, griddle, dual beverage centers, wine cooler, trash compartment, ample storage, and a double beer tap. Above the grill and smoker, dual stainless vent hoods blend function with modern design. The kitchen then curves gracefully into a semi-circular bar, creating a sculptural focal point that comfortably seats six guests. The stone veneer base, integrated power outlets, and under-bar LED lighting add both beauty and practicality to the design.

Every column of the patio cover is wrapped in Duroc and finished with matching stone veneer, maintaining the cohesive material palette throughout. Beyond the patio, the pool area is enclosed with standard mesh screening, while at the far end, a custom-built sauna in warm wood tones complements the tongue-and-groove ceiling finish, completing the retreat’s spa-like aesthetic.

Around the entire outdoor living space, inground and perimeter spotlights were thoughtfully placed to highlight the architecture, textures, and landscaping—creating a captivating glow that transforms the area into a showpiece after dark. A walkway connects the entertainment area to the front driveway, and a spacious pad adjacent to the bar area provides flexibility for hosting larger gatherings and special events.

The result is an extraordinary fusion of design, craftsmanship, and technology—a true luxury outdoor environment built to entertain, unwind, and impress.
