Fire Pit Installation in Mandarin, Jacksonville, FL

Gas and wood-burning fire pits for Mandarin patios, built into the seating and the stonework.

Families in Mandarin often tell us the fire pit is what gets them outside after dinner. We design it as part of the patio, gas or wood-burning, with seating that faces the fire and the view. Big oaks, the St. Johns River and Julington Creek give Mandarin backyards shade and views, and also roots, slopes and storm exposure to plan around.

Building a Fire Area in Mandarin

  • Gas fire pit. Starts with a switch and has no smoke. Gas connections by our licensed trade partners.
  • Seat walls. Walls at seating height around the fire area.
  • Lighting around it. Step and seat-wall lights for the walk back to the house.
  • Next to the kitchen. Fire and cooking close together keeps the evening in one place.

Fire pits and fireplaces topped the list of outdoor design elements in a national ASLA survey of residential landscape architects.

Planning a Fire Pit in Mandarin

Many Mandarin homes are older and on larger lots than newer suburbs, so there's often room for a bigger outdoor room or a freestanding structure. Facing the water, the fire area is often placed at the edge of the patio so the view is part of the evening.

A path and a few step lights make the walk back to the house easy after dark. Before we draw a fire pit in Mandarin, we check gas or wood, and what that means for placement, how seating wraps the fire and the path back to the house.

NFPA advises never adding lighter fluid or any other flammable liquid to a fire that's already burning.

Approvals and Permits in Mandarin

In Mandarin, review ranges from none at all to a full HOA board, depending on the subdivision. Boards often ask whether the fire pit is gas or wood-burning and how far it sits from the house and the property lines. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Mandarin permits come from the City of Jacksonville, with zoning and building review handled in JaxEPICS. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a fire pit in Mandarin cost? Every project gets a custom quote with an in-person AutoCAD design, and every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum. What drives the cost of a fire pit in Mandarin: lighting; gas or wood; size and finish; benches and seat walls; and permits. You get a fully itemized quote within 24 hours of your design consultation.

Can you add a fire pit to my existing patio? Often, yes. We can set a fire pit into an existing patio or extend the patio to make room for one with seating.

How far should a fire pit be from the house? It depends on the fire type and local rules. We plan clearances from the house, the fence and any structure during design.

Can you add a covered area to my existing screen enclosure? Often, yes. One of our Mandarin projects is a covered pergola built onto a family's existing screen enclosure. We look at the existing structure first and design the addition to tie into it.

Do I need HOA approval for a fire pit in Mandarin? Plan on it. Some Mandarin neighborhoods have an HOA review, many older streets have only deed restrictions, and riverfront lots have their own considerations, so we check what applies to your address first. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
