Fire Pit Installation in Fruit Cove, FL

Where the evening ends up: fire pits for Fruit Cove backyards, planned in AutoCAD.

Even in Florida there are plenty of nights for a fire. We design and build fire pits for homeowners in Fruit Cove as part of the patio, with built-in benches or seat walls around them, so the fire area feels like a destination. Gas connections are made by our licensed gas trade partners. Older Fruit Cove homes often sit on larger lots than the newer communities to the south, with room for a bigger patio or a freestanding structure.

Fruit Cove Fire Pit Ideas

  • Wood-burning fire pit. The real crackle and smell of a fire.
  • Built-in bench. A curved or straight bench that wraps the fire.
  • Seat walls. Walls at seating height around the fire area.
  • Sunken fire areas. A step down to the fire with benches makes a cozy room in the yard.

DarkSky International recommends aiming outdoor lights downward with shielding, using timers or motion sensors, and choosing warmer colors where possible.

Designing a Fire Pit for Fruit Cove

Fruit Cove isn't a city, so permits come from St. Johns County even when the mailing address reads Jacksonville or St. Johns. Facing the water, the fire area is often placed at the edge of the patio so the view is part of the evening.

Placement comes first. We check clearances from the house, the fence, trees and any roof before picking a spot. Before we draw a fire pit in Fruit Cove, we check gas or wood, and what that means for placement, the path back to the house and whether lights are wanted in the seat walls.

Florida's summer thunderstorms are a reason to know the CDC's rule: open structures like gazebos and porches don't protect you from lightning, so go indoors when thunder roars.

Fruit Cove HOA Review and Permits

In Fruit Cove, review depends on the community. Julington Creek Plantation's POA reviews changes; some older streets have no association. Boards often ask whether the fire pit is gas or wood-burning and how far it sits from the house and the property lines. Confirm current guidelines with your association.

Fruit Cove is in St. Johns County, which requires a building permit for most improvements and, in most cases, issues a clearance sheet before it accepts the building permit application. Registered architectural review associations can be notified when a permit application for exterior construction is filed. Every permitted structure gets its necessary engineered documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a fire pit cost in Fruit Cove? It depends on the design, so there's no standard price. The main cost drivers are gas or wood; size and finish; benches and seat walls; the patio around it; and permits. Every AY Luxury Designs project has a $10,000 minimum, and you get a fully itemized custom quote within 24 hours of your consultation.

Gas or wood-burning fire pit? Gas is instant and smoke-free; wood gives the crackle and smell. We build both and help you choose for your yard and your HOA.

What seating works around a fire pit? Built-in benches and seat walls work well because they define the fire area. We plan them in AutoCAD.

Can you build on a riverfront Fruit Cove lot? Yes. Riverfront lots can slope toward the water, so we plan steps, raised patios and placement from your survey.

Does a fire pit in Fruit Cove go to the HOA? In most cases, yes. Some Fruit Cove homes are in planned communities like Julington Creek Plantation or Cunningham Creek Plantation with an architectural review board, and some older riverfront lots have no HOA at all. Many HOAs review fire pits. We put the package together and handle the submittal with you. Confirm current guidelines with your association.
